Painting A Brighter Day

Contributed By: Dining Room Manager Deborah

We look for creative ways to reduce the stress brought on by the Covid-19 health crisis. One option we use a lot, encouraging our residents to be creative. On this day, we supplied the paint and brushes. This type of engrossing activity takes the focus off whatever is causing stress and puts one's mental energy into a productive action. When our artists in residence are putting their thoughts to canvas or paper, they forget about what is going on in the world, or even what is going on in the same room. With the meditative effect they feel, they probably forget they are wearing a face mask. Add to the stress relief a positive effect on blood pressure, hand-eye coordination, sense of accomplishment and self-esteem. As you can see, being creative paints a pretty picture.
